There's a major storm heading towards the East Coast US which threatens to disrupt US car exports. Hurricane Florence is barreling towards the states with speeds of over 140 mph, and it continues to gain strength. Over 1 million people are already required to evacuate from parts of Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
When Hurricane Florence reaches land on Friday morning, expect road and port closures, resulting in delayed vehicle collections and container departures. We have previously seen how major weather events effect auto transport rates, transit times, and container arrivals and departures.
Hurricane Florence threatens the following major export ports with delays and closures:
- Savannah, Georgia
- Charleston, South Carolina
- Norfolk, Virginia
Maersk, CMA CGM, and MSC also have offices located in the storm's path, which will result in delayed shipments if the offices are closed during the storm.
According to current predictions, the port of New York/New Jersey will not be affected by Hurricane Florence. However, please expect to see delays in vehicle collections, and potential increases in auto transport costs within the US. We will keep you updated on any developments.
